Red Guards

For his 2013 Men’s Spring/Summer Collection, HARRISON WONG has turned his attention northward to mainland China. There the Cultural Revolution, which is still something of a taboo, lurks under the surface and pops out from time to time as decorative kitsch or a penchant of some to sing patriotic songs. Wong’s collection, Red Guards, draws on this collective memory by creating fashions that, while clearly pushing contemporary boundaries, resonate with the political fervor of the 1960‘s and 1970‘s. Wong’s uncompromising statements remind us not only of how things were, but also how far things have come and where they may go.
